Nestled in the Ozark mountains, Springfield has many peaceful places to live, where residents can enjoy tranquility and a strong sense of community.

In this guide, we will describe some of the best neighborhoods for those looking for a peaceful and calm community to call home. We’ll describe what to expect from these communities, what the residents spend their free time doing, and who they are best suited to.

Rountree 

  • Location: Central Springfield, near Missouri State University’s campus
  • Key Features: Tree-lined streets, a 5-minute drive to Phelps Grove Park, historic homes, and great walkability 
  • Demographic: Ideal for young couples and small families 
  • Average Home Price/Rent: Average house price is $200,000 - $600,000 and $800 - $1,500/month for rent
  • Vibe: Charming and serene with historic buildings and many new developments 

Rountree is an up-and-coming, charming community in the heart of Springfield. The growing township is filled with tree-lined streets, sweet coffee shops, and craft breweries where you can sit and have a drink in the garden. 

With affordable house prices, it is becoming a popular spot for people looking for a peaceful and safe neighborhood in Springfield. 

Whilst the population of Rountree is on the rise, the township itself has a rich history. Community events, such as the Rountree Historical Walk, highlight the area's historic charm, with 20th-century architecture dotted around the area.  

The community is known for its great community spirit, with community-led initiatives such as the Rountree Neighborhood Association, which promotes safety and camaraderie in the community. 

One of the benefits of the area is its walkability. You’ll often find people taking a stroll through the peaceful streets, stopping at local tea shops, and peering into artesian-style stores. Young families can also be seen visiting the nearby Phelps Grove Park, enjoying the walking trails and playgrounds just a stone's throw from Rountree.

Southern Hills

  • Location: Southeast Springfield, MO
  • Key Features: Large lakes with a close proximity to Sequiota Park
  • Demographic: Ideal for families and active couples/couples with dogs 
  • Average Home Price/Rent: $300,000 - $600,000 for homes; $1,200 - $2,000/month for rent
  • Vibe: Proud nature-loving community with a serene in relaxed setting 

The Southern Hills neighborhood is a family-friendly community known for its natural beauty. First developed in the 50s, Southern Hills remains a highly sought-after community that is great for new families. 

Southern Hills is known for its old trees and beautiful lakes, making it perfect for those who are looking for a peaceful spot away from the city’s main hustle and bustle. The residents of Southern Hills are very patriotic about their beautiful surrounding nature. For example, in recent years, the locals have formed a Community Improvement District (CID), which aims to protect the beauty of the lakes. 

When it comes to things to do, locals love to spend time at the nearby Sequiota Park. This park has walking trails, caves, and a picturesque lake, which is popular amongst joggers, cyclists, and families looking to enjoy a picnic. 

Although the community is quiet and peaceful, its proximity to more modern amenities makes it a great middle-ground for busy families who could benefit from the convenience of the big city. For example, the popular Battlefield Mall is a quick 10-minute drive away and allows you to shop at over 150 stores. 

Fremont Hills 

  • Location: Springfield Metropolitan Area 
  • Key Features: Highly rated public schools, popular golf course that is regarded highly by golfers 
  • Demographic: Community of 1,200 people with many families and retirees who tend to be conservative 
  • Average Home Price/Rent: Median home value of $420,000 
  • Vibe: Rural, family-orientated feel with a large Christian community 

Fremont Hills is a tight-knit community that is popular amongst families, retirees, and golf enthusiasts. It is regarded as a very safe community. The predominantly Christian community is a great place to raise a family and has many highly regarded public schools. 

The community is also popular amongst multigenerational families due to the availability of highly regarded retirement homes. Allowing families to live alongside loved ones and enjoy each other's company whilst receiving the support they need. 

When it comes to recreational activities, The Fremont Hills Golf Course is a much-loved golf course in Fremont and boasts mature hardwood trees and holes for all abilities. They host tournaments, as well as competitions, including the popular women’s league. 

Kickapoo Prairie Estates

  • Location: On the Southern edge of Springfield 
  • Key Features: Modern homes 
  • Demographic: Families and working professionals 
  • Average Home Price/Rent: $300,000 to $500,000. Rental properties are uncommon.

The median age for residents in Olde Ivy is 40 years, with most of their residents holding some kind of degree.

Woodland Heights

Millwood

  • Location: Southeast Springfield
  • Key Features: Millwood Golf & Racquet Club and elegant homes 
  • Demographic: Empty nesters and retirees enjoying luxurious living 
  • Average Home Price/Rent: $400,000 to $1 million+
  • Vibe: Refined and relaxed with a strong sense of community 

Millwood is a peaceful gated community popular amongst empty nesters and retirees looking for a safe, modern neighborhood to enjoy some well earnt serenity. Millwood homes are often custom-built, making it common for those looking to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle that is close to amenities. 

When it comes to recreation, the Millwood Golf & Racquet Club is a popular spot for locals. Beyond the 18-hole golf course, the resort-style pool is a common spot for locals to cool off in those hot summer months.
